Player Owned Houses A place to live in Runescape
Overview:
Player owned houses have always been a dream to the players of Runescape. The players needed a place where they could call home. And not to mention that this could add more spice to Runescape. The ultimate game would be consisting of some unique stuff, the advantageous of every other game, but non of the disadvantages. And this would simply add in The Simss feature in Runescape.
If youre thinking: How can Player Owned Houses implant in Runescape without a house shortage at the beginning?, Well the answer is simple. Have you ever heard of a game series called Final Fantasy, well in that game, the cities are all in a separate screen, and in the overworld they only takes about 2 to 3 squares. But when you step on them, you get teleported to another screen, which is the city. It could work the same way in Runescape, simply make a little area where some empty houses were fenced by metal fences. And there would be an Estate Agent Building in front of the houses. Enter the building and talk to Estate Agent would be something like this:
Estate Agent: Greetings, May I help you? You: Yes Sir, I want to rent a house You: Yes Sir, I want to buy a house You: Yes Sir, I want to sell my house You: Yes Sir, I want to enter the Resident Area You: No, but Thank You
(If you chose Yes Sir, I want to enter the Resident Area) Estate Agent: Ill unlock the gates for you.
Afterward you will be transported to another screen, which is the Player Owned Houses area. Since its a separate plane than the Overworld, it can get as large as we want. And still take up the same area in the Overworld
To Exit, Simply go back to the gate, right click on the gate, and select Exit Resident Area And you will be transported back to the estate agent.
Houses:
Now for houses
There are three types of house you could buy. When you rent a house, you may only rent an apartment. You can buy items for your apartment but you cannot upgrade it.
As for your house, the three types of house you can buy are Small, Large, and Castle.
Small House: Upgrades: basement Starting Price: 5,000gp Upgrade Cost: basement(25,000gp) Area: 30 squares, 5 by 6.
Large House: Upgrades:Basement, Second Floor Starting Price: 10,000gp Upgrade Cost: basement(30,000gp), 2nd Floor(50,000gp) Area: 112 squares, 8 by 14

And as for apartment rentals:
Apartment: Upgrades: none Starting Price: 3,000gp Upgrade Cost: n/a Area: 9 squares, 3 by 3
Furniture:
Both Apartment and Houses can contain furniture. At first, you dont start with any furniture, so you have to buy them. The Price of them are as follows:
Bed, takes up 2 squares, cost: 100gp Chair, takes up 1 square, cost: 50gp Landscape Picture takes up 1 wall square, cost: 100gp Portrait of the Kingtakes up 1 wall square, cost: 100gp Cabinet, takes up 2 squares, cost: 200gp, holds 20 items Chest, takes up 4 squares, cost: 500gp, holds 35 items Owntable, takes up 1 square, cost: 250gp, holds 1 item Table, takes up 1 square, cost: 250gp, holds 1 item Long Table, takes up 4 squares, cost: 350gp, holds 4 items Vase of Flower, takes 1 square, cost: 100gp Dish, takes 1 square, cost: 50gp Weaving wheel takes 1 square, cost: 1,500gp Anvil, takes 1 square, cost: 5,000gp Display Shield, takes 1 wall square, cost: 50gp Weapon stand, takes 1 square, cost: 100gp, holds 6 weapons Armor stand, takes 1 square, cost: 100gp, have 6 slots for armor Wardrobe, takes 2 squares, cost: 200gp, holds 15 clothes Fireplace, takes 2 squares, cost: 400gp
Bed: Everyones gotta sleep sometimes. In Runescape, we could make it that when you right click on your own bed, you can select sleep in bed, and you would be inside the bed. You will recovery your HP and other stats by one per second. If you want to get out of the bed, simply click anywhere else, just like running from fights. And you will get out of bed.
One more thing, If you sleep in a bed while wearing armor, you will gain HP four times slower than when you sleep while wearing clothes. This armor does not include leather armor, but do apply to gloves and boots.
If youre a guest at someone elses house, and when you right click on their bed and select sleep in bed, then the owner of the house would receive a message: (insert player name here) would like to get some rest in your bed. To reply, right click on that player and select allow player to sleep in bed, and he/she will sleep. If you dont want them to, then simply just ignore it.
Only one person can rest in one bed at a time, so for all those cyber freaks out there, TOO BAD!!!!
Chair: This would add the ability to sit in runescape, and would also add knees to runescape players. Okay W13 I get your point!!! Lol no offense. Anyway Chairs would act the same way as beds, the only difference would be that you can regain EVERY OTHER SKILL when resting in bed, but you can only regain strength and HP when sitting in a chair. Also in a chair you would regain one points for every 4 seconds. But there is no armor rule. And if youre a guest you dont have to ask permission to sit on a chair.
One more thing, When youre sitting on the chair, you can operate items or machines or structures adjacent to you.
Landscape Picture: This is just a picture to hang on the wall to decorate. It does not take up ground space, it will be attached to the walls, but it will take up wall space.
Portrait of the King: This is another picture to hang on the wall to decorate. Put this picture up to show loyalty to the King. Same thing with Landscape Picture.
Cabinet: Cabinet is what Sir Wyvin used to keep his picture used in the Knights Sword quest. Lets add this into Runescape. This can hold inventory Space, First, right click on the cabinet and select Open Cabinet, and a window much like the bank window would open up and you simply modify the content the same way with the bank. A Cabinet can hold 20 items.
Chest: Chests are the same with Cabinets, except they take more room and hold more. They hold 35 items.
Owntable: Owntables are tables that when you display something, other people cannot take the item that is being displayed. This is used for showing off your stuff safely. It is used for display only, not for giving. All items displayed on any kind of table will stay on there forever, if its not on an owntable, then it will stay there until other people or yourself gets it. To display something on the table, right click on an item, then right click on a table. There will be one extra slot between the use item with table/owntable and the cancel, it would read display item on table/owntable.
To take it off, simply just take the item off by clicking the item, or right click and select take item note that only YOU can take the item off if its displayed on your owntable.
Table: These are exactly same with Owntables except that the item on this table would be open to all players. That means a guest would be able to take the item. This is used for like a dinner or lunch party. Before the party, display all food on this table, and when party starts the guests would be able to take it themselves. But if you are displaying a valuable item that you only want the guest to see it, but not take it. So for security I recommend you to use owntables.
Long Tables: Long Tables are the same with Tables, except they come with 4 square of table space and the shape cannot be modified, you can get the same effect by placing 4 Tables together. Except that would take much more money.
Vase of Flower: Display a vase of flower on your table to decorate the room. When youre within 2 square of the flower, your HP and other stats will regenerate 2x as fast as regular regenerate. You will be needing a table to place the flower on. Thats all about it.
Dish: Does it look proper that you put stuff like trout, tuna, pizza, or lobster on the table? No. You need a dish to put them in. Dish is only here to make it look better. It will be an item you put onto a table that wont affect the number of item on the table. Which means that the dish will not take the space on the table. But you put them on the table just like with a regular item. Afterward put the food on the table, and it would looks like a dish of food instead of just food.
Weaving Wheel: I think thats what they are called These are the machines that turns wool into onions of wool. Im not sure but I think this is a level item. You already know what that is.
Anvil: The Anvil used to make armor. You know what this is
Display Shield: That bluish shield on the walls of Champions Guild and Castles. Its just another form of picture. It works the same way with the pictures.
Weapon Stand: This is a triangular stand, able to hold 6 weapons only. This stand is used to show off your awesome weapons.
Armor Stand: This is not exactly like a weapon stand. This armor stand can hold differently than others. There are 6 slots, but each slot can only be one type of armor.
Slot One: Helmet (Medium or Large, Any type of Metal) Slot Two: Body Armor (Chain or Plate, Any type of Metal) Slot Three: Leg Armor (Chain or Plate, Any type of Metal) Slot Four: Cape (any color) Slot Five: Shield (Square or Kite, Any type of Metal) Slot Six: Amulet (Any Gem)
Wardrobe: In modern days as of now, we call it a Closet, but in the medieval days, they call it a Wardrobe. It can hold up to 15 clothes, not armor or other items. This place is for wearable items (not wieldable items) that is not made of metal. Which means leather armor would count. But not gloves or boots.
Fireplace: Fireplace iswhats under the chimney. Its something when you light up, it warms up the whole room.
To buy these items above, You must go to the estate agent, and talk to the Furniture dealer. He will sell you the items. Each item will take up one inventory space. Take it to your house, Click on your furniture, select place furniture, then click on a location, and the furniture would be able to place there. You can only place furniture within your house. If you select a space that is not big enough for the furniture or other reasons, so that the furniture cannot be placed there, then a message will tell you you have selected a bad location, please choose somewhere else.
House Keys:
There will be different type of house key you can get. Go to the estate agent and talk to the key exchanger, He will sell you house keys:
Bronze Key, regular lock: 500gp Iron Key, Mediocre lock: 1000gp Steel Key, Complicated lock: 5000gp Mithril Key, Mythical lock: 15,000gp Adamantite Key, Magical lock: 25,000gp
Runite Key, Master Lock: 100,000gp
If you dont buy any lock, then anyone can just burst into your house at any time. The door would be like most doors in runescape now. And you wont get a lock option. But however if you have a lock, theres a possibility someone can pick it. It depends on the lockpickers thieving level.
Talk to the Key Exchanger, he will say something like this:
Key Exchanger: Welcome, may I help you with some locks You: Yes please You: No Thank you
If you selected No Thank you, The Conversation will end. If you selected Yes please
Key Exchanger: Select the type of lock you wish to be installed
You: Bronze Key, regular lock You: Iron Key, Mediocre lock You: Steel Key, Complicated lock You: Mithril Key, Mythical lock You: Adamantite Key, Magical lock You: Runite Key, Master Lock If you choose any of those above, The Key Exchanger will tell you the price, then
You: Sure, Install that please You: I changed my mind, please tell me what lock I can get again You: Wow! I can do without lock at that price
If you said Sure, Install that please, then the Key Exchanger will take the price from you, give you the key, and your lock would be installed on.
If you say I changed my mind, please tell me what lock I can get again, then you will go back to the pick a lock menu
If you say Wow! I can do without lock at that price, then the conversation will end.
Your key would be called a Bronze House Key/Iron House Key/Steel..etc.
Your House Key is untradable, undropable, and will be an extra item you keep when you die, so it wont interfere with the best 3 item rule.
To lock a door, simply first close the door, the right click on the closed door and select lock door, If you are the owner of the door, then you would get a message you have locked your door
If you are not the owner of the door, the you would get a message This is not your door, You cannot lock it
To Unlock your door, same rule with locking it, You gotta right click on the locked door and select unlock door. And then you gotta open it to get in.
You can pick a lock with the thieving skill. To pick higher level locks you gotta have higher thieving skill. Chart is here:
Bronze: level 20 Iron: level 35 Steel: level 45 Mithril: level 60 Adamantite: level 70 Runite: level 80
To Pick a lock, right click on a lock and click on Pick Lock, But first you need a needle in your inventory first.
If you successfully picked a lock, that will give you one chance of getting into the house, not to mention XP for thieving. After you get into the house, you could take anything that is left on the floor or on tables. Stuff that is not grabable to guests (items on owntables, armor/weapon stands, inside chests and cabinets, inside wardrobes, etc), are also not grabable to thieves.
If you exit the house after successfully picked a lock, then you will have to pick the lock again to get in. And the success rate of successfully picking a lock is very slim, that means itll be frustrating when picking locks(kinda like when youre mining coal in a place with only one coal rock with about 14 other people.)
Garden:
For large houses and Clan Castles, you will be granted a spot adjacent to your house, fenced, to be your garden. Apartments and Small Houses do not get gardens.
With the Garden you can plant plants. We can refer to Darkest90s Gardening Skill suggestion for this place.
Towers Specialty Shooting:
The Towers in Clan Castles have a specialty You can shoot from it. On top of the towers, there is a battlement. To shoot from the battlement, you need to first right click the battlement, and select use battlement
You will be needing a bow, any type of bow, and the appropriate ammo for the bow. If you are short of any of the above, then you would get a message You dont have a bow/ammo
If you have bow and ammo, and you right clicked the battlement and selected use battlement, then from outside, The battlement will automatically shoot at anyone on the operators ignore list within the range of 20 squares.. And its kinda player killing.
What happens if you stop playing:
If you stopped playing for over three month, then half of all the money will be returned to you and you will lose your house. But you can give up on your house without having to wait for 3 month by going to the estate agent, and select Yes sir, I want to sell my house., then he will ask.
Estate Agent: Are you sure? You: Yes, I have made up my mind. You: What in the world did I do that for, No Way!!
If you chose Yes, I have made up my mind, then half of all the money you had spent on the house will be returned to you. As the house will be emptied and become vacant.
If you choose What in the world did I do that for, No Way!!, then the conversation will end.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Player Owned Houses COULD be a reality. It will add more role play ability to Runescape, as well as giving the rich something to spend their money on. Using the Methods above, it will not take much space in the overworld, and with some technical adjustments, it will not make the game lag much more than what it is already is. It will take much programming, but It will most definitely be worth its effort. And not to mention using my Runescape Editor idea, and many player contribute pictures and programs, This idea will be up in a flash
Now I wanted to here what the players has to say about this, Please dont leave your reply something like this idea sux, or I like it. Please tell me why do you think this idea is bad or if you dont think its bad, try to tell me something that would make this idea better.
Now remember. Same idea, if theres lots of little thread about it that all dies quickly, Andrew would probably consider the idea a nuisance. But the same idea, if theres one HUGE thread that is over 10 pages long, and there were good discussions and good suggestions constantly adding to the idea, the Andrew might consider the idea Posted with great spirit
Now Tell me what do you think
